My New Favorite Brett Eldredge song

Some of you may know, I’m a big big fan of Brett Eldredge. “Sunday Drive” is a song off of his latest album of the same name. It might be my favorite tune of his that’s been released thus far. Which is saying a lot, because I already hold a couple of his songs in pretty high regard! Before this one came along, I’d say my favorites by Eldredge were “Mean to Me” and the extremely underrated “Raymond.” This song though, it’s on yet another level for me. I think about everyone can relate to driving somewhere with their parents, grandparents or someone they love with no particular destination in mind. Just driving to drive. Those times may seem like nothing when they are happening, but with growing up you realize how special they were. That’s what this song is all about and I love it.

The chorus lifts me up. When Eldredge sings “Watching the world through an open window,” I can feel my heart crescendo with the song. I love the structure of the lyrics. It starts out with the narrator reminiscing about being a kid as his parents take him on a drive. Then, he gets older and does the same thing, only this time he is behind the wheel. There’s so much we can relate to in that. Our parents do so much for us while we are growing up. Someday though, almost seamlessly, the roles sort of reverse and we find ourselves doing more for our parents. It’s a cycle of love that we all go through.

Will this song be a big hit? I’m not sure. But I hope it is. It’s one of those songs I think everyone should hear because it’ll tug at their heart strings. I have a feeling that “Gabrielle” will be the big hit off of this record. It’s a great song too! It’s fun and easy to sing a long with. But ‘Sunday Drive” will be one of the songs from Brett’s discography that I’ll continue to revisit for years to come.

I’ve had so many memories that are like the Sunday driving mentioned in this song. It’s not always driving though. Sometimes it’s walking. Sometimes it’s watching a movie or playing a board game. As Eldredge says in the song, they are “ordinary things” but they mean a lot. Those ordinary activities will stand out in your mind when you look back because they were with people you love. Those memories become even more special when those people are gone. Make the most of simple times with those that you love. Because those moments are so often overlooked.
