Children & Familiies of Iowa:
Children & Families of Iowa (CFI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and families throughout Iowa. Headquartered in Des Moines with offices in Ankeny, Fort Dodge, Osceola and Ottumwa, CFI provides services, such as: domestic violence prevention and intervention, teen programs, family support, early childhood development, mental health and substance abuse.
This special organization has been there for children and families for more than 130 years. It was there when children orphaned by poverty needed someone to help find them loving, permanent homes. Through the years, it has been there for “unwed” mothers, for abused women and children, for abandoned teenagers and for families on the brink of disaster.
Today, Children & Families of Iowa stands on this foundation of caring as one of Iowa’s largest, most well-respected providers of family services. From a small adoption agency serving a few hundred children to a statewide organization serving tens of thousands of Iowans every year, the organization has grown by adhering to one basic principle: every child and family deserves to be safe.
Camp Kesem is a student-run organization that provides services for children who have been affected by a parent’s cancer. We offer many opportunities for the kids and families throughout the year, and it all builds up to our “Main Event:” a free week-long summer camp that these kiddos can attend to just have fun! This year, our camp will be held in Boone, IA from June 7-13. We understand that snow days might impact some of the camp dates, but we accept late campers! Visit campkesem.org for more details.
Hunger Action Month:
While it may be hard to believe, over 340,000 Iowans may not know where their next meal will come from. In communities just like ours, there are many who need help. September is Hunger Action Month. Join people across the country who are coming together to end hunger and bring awareness to food insecurity. Start today. It can be as easy as donating food and money or volunteering your time. Whatever level of involvement is right for you, it is simple to find and help your neighbors in need. So get involved. Visit foodbankiowa.org and learn how you can make a difference today.
